RF-over-fiber for GPS Timing Distribution

PPM's ViaLite Metro-GPS RF-over-fiber and RS422-over-fiber links provide a reliable, high performance, cost effective alternative to conventional coax-cable systems for synchronising digital communication systems to GPS-derived timing signals.

GPS is used increasingly often to provide synchronising information for distributed communication networks. In situations where a base station or other time referenced equipment is poorly located for GPS reception, fiber links are used to distribute either the RF satellite signal or a demodulated RS422 version of the satellite signal. PPM offers links designed specifically for this application.

PPM's links are designed to be used with little or no previous knowledge of optical fibre installation and use. In addition to providing the fibre optic transmitters and receivers, PPM can supply pre-terminated fibre optic cables for internal, external and riser applications. These ruggedised cable assemblies are delivered complete with pulling boots and installation instructions, removing the need for on-site fusion splicing and connector termination.

Metro-GPS is offered in either single, dual or triple channel format with further options of automatic signal switch over for situations where redundancy is required for maximum signal uptime.

PPM also offers a standard rack mount alternative to the METRO-GPS arrangement. This allows flexibility to install either stand alone modules or 19" rack mounted modules in either transmit or receive locations depending on customer requirements.
