PPM has launched a new combined RF and digital ViaLite fiber optic link, allowing Satellite Operators to realise true cost savings 31st May 2008 - In response to the SatCom Industry’s drive to deliver ever greater broadband services over optical fibre while maintaining tight controls on expenditure, PPM have developed an innovative inter-facility link that combines RF traffic and digital data onto a single optical channel, avoiding costly allocation of dedicated fibre channels for the transport of individual services. The combined analogue and digital fiber optic link enables satellite ground station operators to carry L band or IF payloads with monitoring and control signals on one fiber. With this new module the ViaLite bandwidth has been extended further than ever before; out to 4.2GHz, enabling Satellite Operators and Service Providers to pull-down C-band traffic and transmit it to Communication Centres for storage and re-distribution. Also, a proprietary modulation technique has been developed to combine both analogue and digital feeds onto a single optical channel. The new ViaLite analogue and digital fiber optic link supports simultaneous transmission of 10-42000MHz RF and up to 20kbps simplex digital data in RS422/485/232 formats over a single fiber. Satellite Operators and Service Providers now have an immediate solution at their disposal to realise significant cost saving in earth station and teleport site expansions and new build projects.
